International Software Testing Qualification Board(ISTQB) is a globally accepted certification for software testers. It has the distinction of being the fastest-growing software testing certification in the world.The certification is issued after the candidate clears the exam that is held online by a testing Exam Board that is approved by ISTQB. An Exam provider is an organization that has been given license by a Member Board to conduct exams locally and internationally.
There are innumerable benefits to getting ISTQB certified. The primary benefit is that this certification makes the candidate eligible for any testing jobs all over the world as opposed to many other certifications that are only recognized country wise. ISTQB is a non profit organization that is run by industry experts and volunteers. There are three levels in ISTQB certification:
- ISTQB Foundation level certification
- ISTQB Advance level certification
- ISTQB Expert level certification
Foundation level certification: This is a entry level certification apt for freshers and those experienced professionals who want to progress through the ladder of ISTQB certification. The purpose of foundation level certification is to ensure that candidates have a broad understanding of the fundamentals and best practices of software testing. The certification is also intended to support professional development. The syllabus of this certification covers six major topics such as testing in the software cycle, fundamentals of testing, static techniques like reviews, behavioural and structural test designs and test management and tools.
Advanced level certification: This is a mid-level certification that is designed for candidates with a minimum of five years of experience as testers. The purpose of this certification is is to ensure that candidates are able to gain a deep understanding of the key concepts of software testing and also get familiar with advanced best practices. The syllabus covers three major areas such as advanced structural or white box testing and test automation for technically oriented programmers and testers, advanced test management ideas for managers and advanced black box or behavioural testing & testing standards for business-oriented testers.
Expert level certification: This certification is intended for software testing leaders with a minimum experience of eight years. The purpose of this certification is to ensure that seasoned software testing professionals have a consistent comprehension, are able to execute proven cutting-edge methods and to be in the forefront of software testing career. As experts have a tendency to specialize in a particular area, the syllabus covers concepts such as industry-specific test techniques, test automation, and test process management.
